You give some you get some....

A few weeks ago a colleague and friend of hubby's lost his aunt, she was 71 years old and lived her life I guess, 71 is not that old for Germany given I see old people past 90 riding the bus when I go to work most days...she died alone poor women, was never married. She had one brother who was married and one sister who lives in Salsburg Austria who hasn't  married either...We went over to her flat, as her nephew was helping to clear out her stuff.

Her sister wanted to give her stuff away to family, friends and friends of friends, as she wanted people to remember her sister by. It was sweet of Olli hubby's friend to ask if we wanted to come along and take a few things that were left over. When we went over that evening most of the things were already taken or promised to someone, we manged to get 2 book shelves for the hundreds of books we have and a nice picture of a quote found in a cathedral in Baltimore. We also got some cast iron pots, if ever you hit someone on the head with, would probably die. I'm gonna make my first pot roast in it tomorrow.

You give some, you get some, well  recently we helped out a friend who had no bed, and another friend was giving away his sofa bed so we asked if we could have it and he said yes. Hubby is such a sweetheart, organised and paid for a van and a friend to help him transport the huge sofa all the way to Altona. The guy giving away the sofa lived on the 6th floor and had no lift. Poor hubby and friend, had to cart the thing down 6 flights, to find the traffic cops had given him a ticket. 16 Euros plus 40 euros for the transporter later, they lugged up the sofa to our friends flat. She now has a bed and a sofa and is happy.

We on the other hand got all this free stuff from Olli's aunt, I was a bit freaked out to take her stuff, but her sister was so sweet about giving us her things, she gave us a small blue urn, hubby says it has her ashes in...bugger, she was buried so I'm  not buying his story. I just think its so nice when people think about you and give you stuff without trying to ask for anything in return. Also here in Germany its normal for people to give away stuff, as you have to pay to throw out all our crap, so I guess we helped in a way.  I look at  those things in my home and remember the old lady I never knew. Hope she rests in peace.

Life is such when you do one good deed you get a good deed in return. I still believe there are good people in this world. I see hubby who helps my friends without expecting anything in return, the old lady who lives on the ground floor of my building, she was so sweet yesterday when I was locked out, even though she had to go out herself. Germans do have a heart, I don't agree when some people say that they are cold hearted, and I love this place so far. I do have some transition problems but I'm getting there. Of course we do have the sour pusses and the grumpy ass's like every place on God's earth but I see the good in people and shrug the crap.

On that note, till next time
Tchuss!!
